Colour Magic C 2" Duo-band Filter Package

The Colour Magic C, 2-inch Duo-band Filter Package is for advanced deep-sky astrophotographers who want to shoot in the famous Hubble (SHO) Palette, using their color cameras.

In the past, astrophotographers would have to use a monochrome (black-and-white) astro-camera and three separate filters to get a Hubble Palette, but these dual-narrowband filters allow shooters with color cameras to make these images, too—and with only two filters!

*** You will need special image-processing techniques to accomplish this, so Hubble/SHO images aren’t well-suited to beginners.

About Colour Magic "C" vs other Dual-Narrowband Filters

** For those of you already familiar with dual-narrowband filters, the Colour Magic C1 and C2 are similar to the Colour Magic D series—and the Optolong L-eXtreme + Synergy package, too.  All three of these are designed for getting the Hubble/SHO palette.  

So what's the difference? 

These "C" filters have a wider (for a narrowband filter) bandpass than the other two filters, so they’re a much better choice for faster (f/2.8) optics. The C-types also pass a little more light through than the the D1 or L-eXtreme/Synergy, so they will be a little easier to use with the built-in guide cameras that ride along with some of the latest ZWO astro-cameras. If you need the tighter 7nm bandpass, stick with the Optolongs or Colour Magic "D"—but otherwise the C1 may be easier to work with overall and they’re less expensive!  They’re a compelling choice for folks just starting to work with narrowband images with color cameras.
